How to Create Pink Pumpkins for Breast Cancer

Updated: Oct 11, 2020

Who said pumpkins had to be orange?

I have been decorating pumpkins pink for several years now to add inspiring touches for breast cancer awareness month - which happens to be the month of October. These hints of pink are perfect for your home but also add personal touches to your workplace as well.

I worked in GYN nursing for many years and it was a great addition to our front check-in area. I even added a few to my husband's front office. It was a thoughtful addition in both places and was loved by many customers who stopped in the office. It creates conversation and you quickly see just how many people are affected by this disease every year!

Whether you want to go all out (like me) or just add a few sprinkles of pink to your usual fall decor, here are a few of my favorite ways to bring awareness and add the perfect pop of color to any area.

Find me on my social media platforms:

or email me (below) and share your photos of how you are helping to bring awareness in October. I will share it on my accounts. Use hashtag: #absolutelyamyablepink or #absolutelyamyable

Creativity and awareness grow as we join together for good.

Let's get started....

Bought at Michaels: ($2.99) for a little added touch - I used on my front porch pumpkins. You will need to cut off the stem with wire cutters.

5. Hot Glue Gun:

6. Stickers:

Michaels sometimes has the breast cancer awareness ribbon stickers that you see on some of the pumpkins pictured. I could not find the stickers this year. The stickers hold up fine for inside decor but not as well for outdoor. Stick to hot glue gun and ribbon for outdoor pumpkins.

7. Personalize:

You can have people sign a name in memory/honor of on the pumpkins with a sharpie. (Could even do this virtually)

8.. Pink mesh

Option for indoor decor - one pictured below was at the GYN office where I worked.

I even found this cute flamingo flag (flamingos were my summer porch theme) so I could carry over my flamingo items through October as well. The flag was $12.98 on amazon. It goes great with my pink pumpkins.

10.. Lastly, join me and donate.

I personally did as I wrote this post. Every little bit helps. Here are two links with several options.

I donated in honor of my mother in law, Pat Alford.

And in memory of my great-grandma, Irene Thomas. She was my biggest fan through nursing school and I had the honor to be her nurse as she entered her heavenly home.

Every time I step outside of my front door I am reminded to pray for someone fighting something bigger than what I have to accomplish for the day.

Take time to make meaningful connections today. :)

Passion, purpose, and pink pumpkins... Who knew?

Happy Decorating!
