This Mickey Mouse themed Christmas decor is definitely a family and friend favorite at our house. Several years ago, we spent Christmas at Disney with our family. We planned it a year in advance and had all year to save and count down the days. I made our home Christmas decorations that year Disney themed as well, it was a great way to begin the excitement that always comes from a Disney vacation.
In a year as heavy as 2020, this is an easy and fun way to add magical touches to your home this Christmas even if you can't travel.
Remember: "If you can dream it, you can do it." Walt Disney
I used the Disney themed decorations even after our Christmas at Disney, they held up great. I have since gifted them to a very dear friend who is a Mickey Mouse fanatic! She still uses them in her home each year.
Here is an easy and fairly inexpensive way to add magical memories to your Christmas this holiday.
A Dream is a wish your heart makes.
A dream is a wish your heart makes
When you're fast asleep
Whatever you wish for, you keep
Have faith in your dreams and someday
Your rainbow will come smiling through
No matter how your heart is grieving
If you keep on believing
The dream that you wish will come true
"My dream wouldn't be complete without you in it." Tiana (The Princess and the Frog)
Go ahead and plan it! Disney is more affordable right now and less packed these days.
We went with my husband's family and spent an entire week. We were there Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. This is our favorite photo taken Christmas Day at breakfast - Chef Mickeys - in our hotel, Disneys's Contemporary Resort.
Thank you, Kristen Boyd with My Mickey Vacation Travel, who did it all for us. She planned every last detail, worked all year to get us the best deals, organized our fast passes, food options, you name!
The family photo has made a great keepsake that I keep up all year, along with two of my favorite ornaments. I placed one of the ornaments on a candle stand - you can get from the dollar store.
I made all the red ornaments. It is one large round ornament and two smaller ones. I bought these from Carolina Pottery many years ago. They were inexpensive. I used hot glue to attach the smaller ornaments to the larger ones. I used ribbon on some around the ears to create a Minnie Mouse version. I tied the ribbon into a bow then hot glued it to the front of the smaller ornaments.
I would not wrap the bow around the ears and then tie it - you might break off one of the hot glued ears. ;) Remember this is DIY!
The pictures with the added blue elements are from the year after we went to Disney. I reused the ornaments but wanted to change up my tree a bit to match our blue touches.
Definitely find red and white polka dot ribbon - I think it adds the best touch with the theme! I've seen it at Michaels and Walmart this year.
The Disney hands I ordered online. Here is an amazon version that is inexpensive. I attached them to long sticks and stuck in my tree. They are a must!
"You're never too old to be young." Happy (Snow White and the Seven Dwarves)
"In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun." Mary Poppins
My youngest daughter, Abby, even picked a Disney themed Halloween costume the year we went to Disney. It was another fun way to keep the excitement and count down the days!
"Happiness is the richest thing we will ever own." Donald Duck
This small tree is the one we set up in our room at Disney. We needed something small that could be easily packed. (keep it boxed for the car ride or in your suitcase for the plane ride)
Disney offers several options to have in your room when you arrive, but this is a much more cost-effective version! We packed some ornaments from home and it lit up our room each night. We now use it in our home as another magical memory from Disney!
Ornaments are all handmade - one red ornament of various sizes and then a smaller one hot glued to the larger one. They are very inexpensive to make!
"My dream wouldn't be complete without you in it." Tiana (The Princess and the Frog)
We had these made before we left - plain white t-shirts from Walmart will do and we used a local lady to add the Mickey and Minnie elements. The kids ditched the shirts fairly quickly after the photo so don't go too crazy with the price if you have pre-teens. They won't stay in them long!
"Life is too short to always be serious." Goofy
I made this at a Christmas decorating party. It was a plain wood shaped ornament that I turned into Mickey :)
And remember buy the ears! They make great keepsakes.
And, man, we could all use a bit more listening these days!
You're braver than you believe and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think." Winnie the Pooh (Pooh's Most Grand Adventure)
It's been a tough year, but don't forget to keep making magical memories. Together. And even from home.
Don't Forget the Porch Decorations to match!
Merry Magical Christmas, Friends!
